Alchemy Consulting is a fractional CIO and AI transformation practice built for organisations that need senior technology leadership without a full-time hire. We work with founders, boards and leadership teams on two connected problems: running technology well, and getting genuine, governed value out of AI rather than a pile of ungoverned pilots.

Our founder, David Viney, spent 30 years leading technology at organisations including WPP, Heathrow Airport, BSI, Arup and the BBC, most recently building WPP Open, a $350m-a-year agentic AI platform used by 70,000 people in 110 countries. That scale of delivery is where the governance instinct comes from: at WPP, model oversight, data provenance and human review weren't paperwork added at the end, they were built into the platform from day one.

Alchemy brings that same discipline to smaller organisations: AI strategy and adoption roadmaps, translating standards like ISO 42001, the EU AI Act and the NIST AI RMF into something a business can actually operate, and hands-on fractional CIO support for the technology decisions underneath all of it. David is a dual-qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered IT Professional (CITP), so the advice is grounded in financial reality as much as technical possibility.

We work best with organisations that want a senior technology partner for a few days a month or a defined engagement, not a full department.
